What is Super 110's Wool? A Guide to Suit Fabrics

What Does 'Super' Mean in Suit Fabrics?
When shopping for a made to measure or bespoke suit, you'll often encounter terms like Super 110's, Super 130's, or Super 150's. These numbers refer to the fineness of the wool fibres used to weave the fabric — the higher the number, the finer (and thinner) the individual fibres. Understanding this system is one of the most useful things you can do when investing in a quality suit.
How the Super Number is Measured
The 'Super' number is derived from the metric count of the yarn — essentially, how many 500-metre lengths of thread can be spun from one kilogram of raw wool. A Super 110's fabric uses fibres measuring approximately 17.5–18.5 microns in diameter, while a Super 150's uses fibres as fine as 15.5–16.5 microns. For context, a human hair is roughly 70 microns wide.
The finer the fibre, the softer, lighter, and more lustrous the resulting cloth — but also the more delicate it becomes.
Super 110's Wool: The Everyday Workhorse
Super 110's is widely regarded as the sweet spot for everyday suiting. It offers an excellent balance of softness, durability, and value. Suits made from Super 110's wool hold their shape well, resist creasing, and can withstand the rigours of regular wear — making them ideal for business suits, commuting, and suits that will be worn frequently.
If you're commissioning your first bespoke or made to measure suit or need a reliable workhorse for the office, Super 110's is an outstanding choice. Explore our Super 110's Piece Dyed 3 Harness fabric as a starting point.
Super 130's Wool: The Versatile Middle Ground
Super 130's strikes a balance between the robustness of Super 110's and the luxury of higher counts. The cloth is noticeably softer to the touch and has a subtle sheen that elevates its appearance. It's a popular choice for suits that need to look sharp at both the boardroom and a formal dinner.
While slightly less hardwearing than Super 110's, Super 130's is still practical for regular wear when cared for properly. Browse our Super 130's Chic Essential for a refined everyday option.
Super 150's Wool: The Pinnacle of Luxury
Super 150's wool is the preserve of special occasions. The fibres are extraordinarily fine, producing a cloth of remarkable softness, drape, and luminosity. A suit in Super 150's feels almost weightless and moves beautifully — but it requires careful handling and is best reserved for events rather than daily wear.
If you're dressing for a wedding, a black-tie event, or a milestone occasion, Super 150's delivers an unmatched level of refinement. Discover our Super 150's Solid 4 Harness and Super 150's Fancy 4 Harness options.
Which Super Number Should You Choose?
Here's a simple guide to help you decide:
- Super 110's — Best for: everyday office wear, frequent use, travel suits. Prioritises durability and value.
- Super 130's — Best for: versatile suits worn several times a week, business meetings, smart-casual occasions. Balances luxury and practicality.
- Super 150's — Best for: weddings, formal events, special occasions. Prioritises softness, drape, and visual impact.
A Note on Weight
The Super number is often confused with fabric weight, but they are different things. Weight (measured in grams per linear metre, or g/m) refers to how heavy the cloth is, which affects warmth and structure. A Super 110's fabric can be woven at a lighter weight for summer, or a heavier weight for winter — the Super number simply tells you about fibre fineness, not seasonal suitability.
When commissioning a suit at KITOKO, we will guide you through both the Super number and the weight to find the perfect cloth for your lifestyle and climate.
